In Oregon alone over 200 cases have been reported. Experts are warning you to keep your dogs out of dog parks, pet stores, and grooming facilities. THEY ARE STRONGLY WARNING AGAINST BOARDING YOUR DOGS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON! Instead hiring a company or person to let your dog out or to stay with your dog.
Symptoms include Coughing, Sneezing, Nasal or eye discharge, Lethargy, Trouble breathing, and blue or purple gums(due to not getting enough oxygen). It is imperative to get your dog to veterinarian ASAP when they show these symptoms. The sooner they can receive treatment the better their outcome will be.
Dr. Lindsey Ganzer, veterinarian, states” to avoid boarding dogs over the holidays “if at all possible,” adding that she’s “so scared” about what may happen with the mystery illness after dogs across the country are boarded for the holidays.”
Veterinarians across the country fear this may spread to all states if dog owners do not heed these warnings. It recommended to make sure your dogs are up to date on their vaccines. It is further noted most dogs can survive this when caught early and that most dogs which have been lost to this illness have had underlying issues.
