Grab the ball and clear some space: Saturday, October 17, 2026, is National Fetch Day. It’s a day to celebrate the simplest, happiest game there is, one ball, one dog, and one human willing to throw it again. And again. And again.
In our house, nobody takes fetch more seriously than Zelda Sayre. As a service dog, Zelda spends her working hours focused, calm, and completely on task. But the moment her vest comes off, the ball comes out.
Fetch is Zelda’s reward for a job well done. A few good throws let her shake off the concentration of the workday, stretch her legs, and just be a dog. You can see the switch flip: the steady professional turns into a tail-wagging blur chasing a ball across the yard.
It’s also part of how she starts every day. Each morning, right after her daily walk, Zelda trots back inside and looks straight at the ball. That’s our cue. A quick game of fetch has become her favorite morning ritual, and honestly, it’s one of ours too.
Fetch is more than a game. It burns energy, builds the bond between you and your dog, and gives them a clear, happy way to earn praise. Here are a few easy ways to join in on October 17:
However you play, the goal is the same: one more throw and one very happy dog. Zelda will be celebrating with her ball in her mouth before we even get the leash off. We hope your pup does too.
Have a Barktastic week. Remember to give your furry family members lots of attention you are their entire world. ~Charley
