This is National Pet Sitters week. We all know how important it is to find the “right” pet sitter for all our family members whether furry, slimly, scaley, or feathery. Our company has had the pleasure of taking care of many different species from eels to dogs and everything in between.
Make sure when choosing a pet sitter that they offer a meet and greet. You want to get to know them, and they need to get to you know you and all your pets. Please be honest with them. There is nothing worse than showing up to a clients house and one or even several surprises occur along the way which the pet parent did not share with you. I can speak from personal experience it makes for an extremely stressful time for the pet sitter and the pets.
Having a pet sitter that is insured and background checked is imperative. An extra bonus is when they know pet 1st aid and CPR, Yes it is a thing and it does vary from the human version. Asking your family, friends or neighbors for recommendations will help you feel more comfortable.
Keep in mind while pet sitters have a job to do they do have families, their own pets, and lives outside their job. Try to be respectful of their time. While emergencies and other things come up making too many and unreasonable demands or watching them on your cameras constantly during their time with your pets may cause them to “blackball” you causing you to lose what may be a very valuable asset to you and your pets. I can say from experience I have only had two clients which I did not return to care for their dogs.
Pet sitters love their jobs and your pets, but you need to remember to treat them with respect. Below are a few of my happy clients. Sorry I did not have space to add all of them.
Have a Barktastic week. Remember to give your furry family members lots of attention you are their entire world. ~Charley
